Thank you to NACI staff and students for making the first two days of school a success. We were happy to see all our students, and it was great to witness the excitement of teachers and students being together again.
More than 80 percent of our students are attending in person. About 15 percent of students are learning virtually. All classes are on Brightspace, a virtual platform. Safety remains our priority for all students.
We once again remind students that before coming to school, they must conduct a student health screening self-assessment<https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/994c-Screening-Questionnaire-Child-Care-Day-Camp-School.pdf>. We would also like all students to download the NOW app which will speed up the screening process every morning.
Again, thanks to all students for following safety rules on our school grounds.
We will present our second virtual welcome back message to students early next week. By then we hope to be comfortably back into our school routine.
Next week we’ll provide an in-school orientation for Grade 9 students. We’ll follow public health and TDSB safety guidelines and we hope this activity will provide more familiarity of our school to all new students.
The TDSB along with TPH has arranged for a vaccination clinic to be held in our school cafeteria on Wednesday Sept. 15th from 9:30-3:30 or while supplies last. Please see the flyer on our webpage for more information.
We’ve arranged our photo day for Tuesday, September 21 and 22. Again, we follow TDSB policy to ensure safety measures. There will be no group photo.
Here is some additional information as we continue with our opening procedures.
We will have two late starts each month. These will be on the last two Wednesdays of each month. One will be for our regularly scheduled staff meeting and the other Wednesday will be used for staff professional learning. Please see our website for the semester schedule. We will also post reminders about these days.
The TDSB is providing a Chromebook for all Grade 9 students. We will provide more details on these Chromebooks and we hope to start distributing them by the end of next week.
I know that other students are also looking for support for devices. In the coming weeks we’ll have some answers for our students and families. At this point in time, we are appealing to our students and families to use their personal devices to support us and our students with digital learning. More to come on this issue as well.
We are planning our first virtual School Council Meeting on Tuesday October 5th at 6:00pm. We will send out invitations to all parents.
We will continue to post school information on this website and our TDSB school app. We hope all parents and students will download this app to receive school messages. Here is the link to download the TDSB school App. All families and students should download the app on their device. https://www.tdsb.on.ca/Media/News/ArtMID/2750/ArticleID/1512/TDSB-Connects-App-Now-Available-for-Secondary-Students
We are heading into our first weekend. I will be watching tennis on TV. We already know that a Canadian made it into the women’s final on Saturday, and if we are very lucky, we might see a Canadian in the men’s finals on Sunday, too. Go Leylah! Go Felix! However, win or lose, the country is incredibly proud of both of you, and your accomplishments.
Thanks again all, for a great opening. Welcome back to school.
